Award Helps Student Acquire First Laptop, Boosting Focus on Academic Pursuits

SBS Transit Education Award Enables Polytechnic Student to Finally Own a Laptop

It’s genuinely great to see students getting the exact support they need to focus on their education. Thanks to the recent SBS Transit Education Award, a few students got a financial hand that will help them big time in pursuing their goals. We’ve heard the stories of two students who show just how much this kind of help matters.

Bernice Can Finally Ditch the Hand-Me-Down

For 19-year-old Bernice Lee, a Social Work student starting her first year at Nanyang Polytechnic, school life just got a lot smoother. Before receiving the award, Bernice didn’t own a laptop. She had to rely on her sister’s old device to get all her heavy assignments done.

That changed completely when she was given the SBS Transit Education Award. The money allowed her to purchase her first brand-new laptop. Bernice was clearly excited, sharing her relief:

“I’m so happy to finally get my own laptop.”

She explained that having her own computer means she can stay focused and motivated. It also gives her the freedom to work on things she loves outside of school, like photography and drumming. This moment is especially important for her family, as her dad, Mr. Lee Kian Boon, works as a senior bus captain and has been the sole breadwinner for 24 years.

Young Aufa Takes a Step Closer to Engineering

Thirteen-year-old Aufa Adam, a Secondary 1 student at Greenridge Secondary School, was another student who benefited from the award. While he didn’t need the money for a computer, the funds will still be crucial for his studies.

Aufa plans to spend the award money on necessary school items, like assignment books. This support is helping him reach his high ambitions. He made his goal clear, saying:

“I want to be an engineer, and this award will help me take another step toward that goal.”

His father, Mr. Mohd Kairul, a Senior Customer Care Officer and a father of four, was extremely grateful for the support. He noted that the award relieves some financial pressure, allowing the family to concentrate fully on their son’s education:

“The award will allow us to focus on supporting his studies without any worries.”

The Heart of the Awards Program

The SBS Transit Education Awards have a long history, dating all the way back to 1978. They are specifically given to the children of the company’s employees who have done really well in their schoolwork and their co-curricular activities (CCAs).

The company recently handed out more than 50 of these awards. This initiative shows a clear commitment to the families of their staff. The public transport operator commented that the awards reflect a lasting value for them:

“The SBS Transit Education Awards have remained a proud reflection of our ongoing commitment to supporting the educational journeys of our employees’ children.”

It’s a fantastic way to ensure the children of the staff get the tools they need to succeed in their future.
