An express bus travelling from Singapore to Ipoh crashed on the North-South Expressway on 11 Oct 2025, killing one passenger and injuring 28 others.
The Super Nice bus was heading from Boon Lay to Ipoh when the 60-year-old Malaysian driver lost control at around 3.15am. The accident happened at the 293km mark near Bangi. The bus veered into a ditch before hitting a pole.
Twenty-nine people were on board. Twenty-four were Malaysians, and five were Singaporeans.
The Victim
Chew Sin Heng, a 59-year-old Malaysian who worked in Singapore’s construction sector, died at the scene. He was sitting at the front of the bus and suffered severe head injuries. Medical staff pronounced him dead.
Rescue Operations
Eighteen firefighters arrived from Bangi, Seri Kembangan, and KLIA Fire Stations. Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, assistant director of operations at the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, said Chew was trapped in the vehicle when rescuers arrived. Three passengers had already gotten out of the bus.
Medical Treatment
The 28 injured passengers received treatment at the crash site. All of them, including the five Singaporeans, were then sent to five hospitals: Hospital Sultan Idris Shah Serdang, Hospital Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin Kajang, Hospital Putrajaya, Hospital Cyberjaya, and Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar Seremban.
Investigation
Kajang police chief Naazron Abdul Yusof said the case falls under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. The driver faces charges of reckless driving causing death. The penalties include five to 10 years in prison, a fine up to RM50,000 (about S$15,360), and a driving licence ban for at least five years.
