Mercedes driver George Russell won the 2025 Singapore Grand Prix on 5 Oct 2025, leading from pole to finish at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
The British driver secured his second victory of the season and fifth career win.
Russell’s Performance
Russell qualified on pole with a track record time of 1:29.158, Mercedes’ first pole at the circuit since Lewis Hamilton in 2018. The race started at 8pm local Singapore time.
The 27-year-old controlled the 62-lap race, building a gap over Red Bull’s Max Verstappen before pit stops. Russell finished 5.4 seconds ahead of Verstappen.
McLaren Wins Constructors’ Championship Amid Driver Clash
McLaren secured their second straight constructors’ championship with six races left in the season, matching the record for earliest title win. Lando Norris finished third and Oscar Piastri fourth, delivering enough points to clinch the crown.
Drama erupted between the McLaren teammates on the opening lap. Norris, starting fifth, passed Kimi Antonelli then attempted to overtake Piastri at Turn 3.
Contact followed. Norris brushed Verstappen’s Red Bull before hitting Piastri, nearly pushing the Australian into the barrier. The collision damaged Norris’s front wing.
Championship Standings
Piastri leads Norris by 22 points after Singapore. Verstappen finished second but sits 63 points behind Piastri in the drivers’ standings.
Piastri’s pit stop lasted 5.2 seconds, eliminating his podium chances. The Australian spent most of the race on medium tyres but couldn’t recover positions.
McLaren’s Achievement
The constructors’ title marks McLaren’s 10th championship and second consecutive. The team’s previous constructors’ championship before 2024 came in 1998 with Mika Häkkinen and David Coulthard.
Other Finishers
Kimi Antonelli finished fifth for Mercedes in his first Singapore race.
Charles Leclerc claimed sixth ahead of Ferrari teammate Lewis Hamilton in seventh.
Hamilton exceeded track limits repeatedly during the final laps. He received a five-second penalty, dropping to eighth behind Fernando Alonso.
