Three people were taken to the hospital after a kitchen fire broke out at Block 63, Lorong 5 Toa Payoh on 6 Oct 2025.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force received the alert at around 9.45am, according to The Straits Times.

SCDF officers arrived to find the kitchen of a third-floor unit engulfed in flames. Firefighters put out the blaze using a water jet.

About 50 residents from the block were evacuated by SCDF and police officers as a precaution.

Two people were assessed for smoke inhalation and sent to Singapore General Hospital. A third person who felt unwell was also taken to the hospital.

Preliminary investigations by SCDF show the fire likely started from an electrical source in the kitchen. The exact cause is still under investigation.

MP Assists Affected Residents

Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC MP Cai Yinzhou arrived at the scene and confirmed he is helping evacuated residents and casualties.

In a Facebook post on 6 Oct 2025, Cai said his team is working with HDB to re-home two units with young children.

Community networks are being activated to reinstate and crowdsource furniture and appliances for affected residents. Visits have been made to all units housing vulnerable individuals to assess the impact.

Cai thanked the police, SCDF, People’s Association staff, Town Council, and community members who helped on-site.

Fire Safety Reminders Issued

SCDF issued fire safety reminders after the incident. The public should not overload electrical outlets with multiple appliances. Appliances must be switched off when not in use.

Residents should regularly check electrical wires for damage. Wires should not be run under carpets or mats, and must be kept away from hot surfaces.

SCDF warned against leaving batteries or devices charging unattended for long periods or overnight. Only appliances and electrical plugs bearing the safety mark should be used.
