Marina Bay Sands Fire Likely Sparked by Welding Works

Fire on 55th Floor of Marina Bay Sands Quickly Put Out by Staff, No Injuries Reported

A small fire broke out at Marina Bay Sands (MBS) on Tuesday, causing smoke. The fire was extinguished quickly by a staff member before the firefighters even arrived.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed that the fire involved a plastic mat on the 55th floor of the hotel.

  • The fire started around 3:30 p.m. at MBS Hotel Tower 3.
  • A spokesperson from MBS stated that the fire was located in an area inaccessible to guests.
  • Most importantly, the fire was “put out by a team member quickly before the arrival of the SCDF.”

Nobody was hurt during the incident. MBS said they are “working closely with the authorities to investigate

The SCDF stated, “Preliminary findings indicate that the fire had likely originated from welding works conducted in the vicinity.”

A reader, Mr. Logan Ravishankar, also shared some pictures they took around 3:40 p.m. of the smoke coming out of the building. He took the photos from his office on the 30th floor of South Beach Tower.
