A routine trip to Johor Bahru (JB) for a haircut turned into a shocking and messy ordeal for a Singaporean man. A group of masked men stormed the hair salon, throwing paint bombs at everyone inside, leaving customers and staff covered in red paint.
Chaos in the Salon
On October 11, a Facebook user named Douglas Ang shared his crazy story online. He was in the middle of getting his hair cut when, all of a sudden, chaos broke out. He said that several unidentified men ran into the salon without warning and just started throwing paint bombs at everyone.
Mr. Ang, a 44-year-old fitness manager, told a news outlet that the incident happened around noon at REDS Hair Salon in Paradigm Mall. He usually goes to a different outlet of the salon, but decided to try this one since it had just opened.
The photos he posted showed a complete mess. The salon’s black-and-red interior was covered in red paint, which splattered all over the floors, chairs, mirrors, and counters.
Some of the paint bombs hit the customers, including Mr. Ang himself. The red paint stained his neck, hair, arms, and clothes. In his Facebook post, he couldn’t believe what had happened, writing, “Went to JB cut hair and suddenly this group of masked men run in and paint bomb everyone. After 2 hours the police still not here. Wtf.”
He also mentioned that the staff had to drive out to file a police report because no officers had shown up at the scene, even after two hours. He said the staff explained that in Malaysia, unlike in Singapore, where you just call 999, they have to physically go to the police station to make a report. The attack seemed to come out of nowhere, with no warning or reason.
Some people started guessing why the attack happened.
One person thought it was the work of an “ah long,” or illegal moneylender.
Another user suggested that the salon might have offended a secret society.
Someone else guessed that the owner might have refused to pay “protection money.”
A commenter was just glad that it was only paint and not “real bomb and guns.”
