A 28-year-old Taiwanese tourist has reported S$3,000 missing from his hotel room at Village Hotel Sentosa. Police are investigating a housekeeper for theft.
Chang Shuoyang, a property agent from Taiwan, checked into the hotel on Thursday evening, 16 October 2025. He placed approximately S$3,000 cash inside a Marina Bay Sands plastic bag on a white counter in his room. He then left for Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Singapore.
Chang discovered the money gone on Friday, 17 October 2025. He posted about the incident on Threads, stating in Chinese that he “felt so helpless” after the hotel manager told him he trusted his staff completely and such an incident couldn’t have happened.
The hotel manager instructed Chang to search through garbage bins. He did so until police arrived. Officers responded to a call at 10 Artillery Avenue at 1:35pm on 17 October 2025.
Police searched a housekeeper and her storage locker. They found the Marina Bay Sands plastic bag Chang had used for his cash. “The hotel manager was really shocked when the police found the plastic bag I used to put my cash. Because the Sentosa hotel would not have a Marina Bay Sands bag!” Chang wrote.
A 34-year-old woman is assisting police with investigations for theft in a dwelling. The housekeeper has denied taking the money but was taken for questioning.
Police investigations continue. Chang has not received compensation, an apology or an explanation, according to Mothership.
