46-Year-Old Construction Worker Killed in Fall at Pandan Gardens JRL Site

Worker Dies After 9m Fall at Jurong Region Line Worksite; LTA Issues Stop-Work Order

A tragic accident occurred on Thursday, November 13, when a 46-year-old construction supervisor fell from about nine metres while descending scaffolding at a worksite near 202 Pandan Gardens for the upcoming Jurong Region Line.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said the incident happened at around 5.30 pm. Police were alerted at 7.10 pm. The Singapore Civil Defence Force officers quickly rushed the worker to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The worker was employed by Leze Construction, a subsidiary of a subcontractor working under the main contractor, Daewoo-Yongnam Joint Venture.

LTA expressed their condolences, saying, “We are deeply saddened by this incident, and extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased worker. We are working with the contractors to provide them with support and assistance.”

The authority also emphasised the importance of safety, stating, “There are established work-at-height safety procedures in our worksites, and investigations are ongoing to find out how the incident occurred.”

Following the accident, LTA issued a stop-work order for the worksite and called for a safety time-out for all at-height work activities across its projects to review compliance with safety procedures.

The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) said it is also investigating the incident. MOM reminded that, “As a general safety measure, workers performing work at height must maintain 100 per cent tie-off at all times, and anchor their fall-arrest harnesses to independent and secure anchorage points.”

The Singapore Police Force added that based on preliminary investigations, there is no suspicion of foul play, and investigations are ongoing.

This is not the first tragic incident on the Jurong Region Line worksite. In January 2024, a construction worker died after falling about 7.5 metres over the edge of an uncompleted platform.
