Amos Yee released from Illinois prison on 7 November 2025, readmitted same day for parole violations

Amos Yee, 27, first gained attention in Singapore through his online videos. In 2017, he received asylum in the United States after facing charges back home for religiously sensitive content. He left Singapore in December 2016, skipping a medical check-up required before his national service.

Fast forward to December 2021. A Cook County Circuit Court in Illinois convicted Yee on child pornography and grooming charges. The court sentenced him to six years in prison, backdated to his October 2020 arrest. Yee served his time at Illinois River Correctional Center, a medium-security prison. His name now sits on the country’s sex offender registry, visible to anyone who searches online.

Yee walked out of prison on parole in October 2023, three years before his original 2026 release date. That freedom didn’t last long. By November 2023, he was back behind bars for breaking parole conditions. The Illinois Department of Corrections never disclosed what he did wrong.

His release date kept shifting. Initially set for April 2025, officials pushed it to November 2025 after the Illinois Prisoner Review Board found he’d violated his release terms again.

Records show Yee was discharged on 7 November 2025. But here’s the kicker: the Illinois Department of Corrections readmitted him that same day. The reason? He breached his parole terms.

Yee is now at Danville Correctional Center. His projected discharge date stretches anywhere from three years to life, depending on how future reviews shake out. He remains under strict restrictions tied to his conviction while authorities conduct further administrative reviews.
