A food delivery rider in Kuala Lumpur collapsed by the roadside while completing his final order of the day. He died at the scene.
Authorities found a text message on his phone. He had sent it to his mother moments before his death. “I am almost done with my work,” the message read. “I’m coming back home tonight with your favourite dish.”
Three Hours of Sleep Daily
The rider lived with his mother in a low-cost flat (PPR) in the city. He slept only three hours each day. The rest of his time went into work.
His mother suffers from kidney disease. He was working around the clock to pay for her treatment.
An RM10 (~S$3) donation receipt to a local mosque was found among his belongings. He made this donation every week without missing once.
Neighbours and fellow delivery riders attended his funeral. Several mourners cried during the service.
Mother’s Statement
The rider’s mother accepted her son’s passing. After learning about the good deeds he had performed throughout his life, she expressed pride.
“We didn’t get to have the meal together, but I was proud of what he was doing,” she said.
