HDB Staff Member Dies After Dragon Boat Race at Singapore Regatta

A 49-year-old HDB employee died on 16 November following a dragon boat race at the 2025 Singapore Regatta Waterfest.

The man competed with the HDB dragon boat team during the morning race. The event took place at the Singapore Sports Hub’s Water Sports Centre at Kallang Basin.

He felt unwell after finishing the race. Organisers provided immediate medical help on-site, but his condition didn’t improve. Paramedics rushed him to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

He arrived unconscious. The emergency crew attempted resuscitation but couldn’t save him.

Police Investigating the Death

Police received an alert about an unnatural death around 12:20pm. The man was pronounced dead at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Preliminary investigations found no signs of foul play. The case remains under investigation.

HDB released a statement expressing deep sadness over the loss. The organisation is supporting the family and staying in close contact with them.

Kallang Alive Sport Management and the Singapore Dragon Boat Association issued a joint statement. Both groups said they’re working with authorities and offering assistance where needed.

One of Singapore’s Largest Dragon Boat Events

The annual Singapore Regatta Waterfest ran from Friday through Sunday. Nearly 4,000 participants competed across 25 categories, making it one of Singapore’s biggest dragon boating competitions.
