Isetan shut its doors at Tampines Mall on 9 November 2025. The Japanese department store had been there since the mall opened in 1996, serving as its anchor tenant for three decades.
The closure happened because the lease expired. Earlier this year, an Isetan spokesperson explained that the decision factored in local market conditions and future profitability. It was in line with the company’s broader business objectives.
Before closing, the store ran moving-out sales to clear inventory. Isetan still operates two other Singapore locations: Shaw House in Orchard and NEX in Serangoon.
What Isetan Offered
For 30 years, shoppers could find homeware, clothing, footwear, beauty products, and groceries at the Tampines outlet. It was a one-stop shop for many residents in the area.
This isn’t Isetan’s first closure in Singapore. The Westgate outlet shut in 2020. Parkway Parade followed in 2022. Now only two stores remain.
What’s Next for the Space
CapitaLand, which operates Tampines Mall, has been working on rejuvenation plans. The company confirmed it will bring in new brands to fill the vacated space. Fashion and beauty retailers are expected to join the mall’s tenant mix, refreshing shopping options for visitors.
Many shoppers see Isetan as an iconic part of Tampines Mall. Some have shared their memories of the store over the years.
Isetan first arrived in Singapore in 1972 at Apollo Hotel on Havelock Road. Since then, several outlets have come and gone. The Tampines location served the community for 30 years before closing its chapter.
