Myanmar Cook Stabbed to Death at Penang Restaurant After Food Complaint

A Myanmar cook in her 40s died after being stabbed at a Thai-style restaurant in Lorong Bukit Juru, Seberang Perai, Penang on the night of 12 November 2025. The attack followed a dispute over food quality.

The incident happened around 9pm. A group of customers had arrived at the restaurant at approximately 8:30pm and became dissatisfied with their meal.

The group was already drunk when they walked in. Their complaints about the food quickly escalated into a heated argument with the cook, who worked at the restaurant with her husband. Both the cook and her husband—a Myanmar national in his late 40s—told the group to leave.

Customer Returned With Knife

One customer, a man in his 30s, left the restaurant and contacted his brother. He then returned armed with a knife and stabbed the cook to death at the scene.

The victim’s husband was stabbed during the attack and sustained injuries to his body. Another man, believed to be a friend of the suspect, was also stabbed.

Both injured men were taken to Seberang Jaya Hospital for treatment and remain under medical care. Health personnel pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

Police arrested three suspects near the crime scene shortly after the stabbing. The arrested individuals include the two brothers, both in their late 30s, and a third suspect aged 50. The third suspect appeared to be a transporter who tried to help the two brothers escape.

Police have issued a remand order against all three suspects. Penang Police Chief Datuk Azizee Ismail confirmed the incident and stated the suspect is believed to have been drunk during the altercation.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. A conviction under Section 302 carries the death penalty or imprisonment for 30 to 40 years. The victim’s body was sent to Hospital Seberang Jaya for a post-mortem examination.
