Malaysian rapper Namewee released a new song titled “Very Shuai” on Spotify on 5 Nov 2025. He surrendered to police the same day after a manhunt.
The 42-year-old musician from Johor, born Wee Meng Chee, is being held on a six-day remand until 10 Nov 2025. Police are investigating the death of Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yu-hsin, who died in a Kuala Lumpur hotel.
The song and its timing
“Very Shuai” translates to “Very Handsome” in English. Namewee originally recorded this demo in 2014 for his band, P-High.
The track mocks how men obsess over looking cool online. Lyrics include “sorry goodbye please don’t cry” and describe rejecting women who confess their feelings for him.
According to The Star, Namewee had scheduled the song’s release weeks earlier, before the murder investigation began. The timing wasn’t deliberate.
Hsieh’s manager wasn’t happy about it. “I understand his fans are definitely excited, but can’t he wait until the investigations are over before releasing the song?” the manager told China Press.
From sudden death to murder case
Hsieh, 33, was known online as Iris Hsieh or “Nurse Goddess”. She was found dead in a hotel room on 22 Oct 2025.
Wee and Hsieh had spent the night together before her death.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Commissioner Datuk Fadil Marsus confirmed the case has been reclassified from sudden death to murder. The cause of death is still under investigation. Police are waiting for post-mortem and toxicology reports.
Drug charges pile up
Police arrested Wee on 22 Oct 2025 in a hotel room. He was initially remanded for two days.
On 24 Oct 2025, he faced two drug-related charges. The rapper pled not guilty and got bail.
His next court appearance for the drug cases is scheduled for 18 Dec 2025.
Wee had previously denied using or possessing drugs. He said on social media he would fully cooperate with police investigations.
