PMD Fire at Yishun Block Evacuates 40 Residents, Four Hospitalized

A personal mobility device caught fire at Block 475B Yishun Street 44 on 5 November 2025 at around 2:25am.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force received the alert and put out the flames quickly. Around 40 residents had to leave the building. Four people from the third-floor flat where the fire started breathed in smoke and went to Singapore General Hospital. They’ve all been discharged.

SCDF’s early findings point to a PMD in the living room as the source.

This happened less than four hours after another PMD fire at an Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4 HDB block on 4 November.

The fire authority warned against using non-original batteries for mobility devices like PMDs and power-assisted bicycles. Don’t charge these batteries overnight or for long stretches, SCDF said.

PMD fires are climbing. The first half of 2025 saw 20 such fires—that’s double the 10 cases from the same period in 2024.

Nee Soon GRC MP Dr Syed Harun Alhabsyi wrote on Facebook that neighbours helped each other during the evacuation. “Response from the Singapore Civil Defence Force was swift and neighbours had helped one another in the evacuation process,” he said. He’s relieved and thankful everyone from the affected unit was safely discharged.

Dr Syed Harun met with the affected family. He told them that grassroots leaders, the Housing and Development Board, and Nee Soon Town Council would help them through this.

He called the fire a “strong and timely reminder” to stay alert, pick up first responder skills, and watch out for each other. An Emergency Preparedness Exercise had taken place in the same area just weeks before.
