A 42-year-old woman took a nasty tumble into a drain near The Oasis on Science Park Drive in Buona Vista. The incident happened at 10:30pm on 3 November 2025, while she was heading home from work.
The drain cover had shifted, leaving an opening that caught her off guard. She cut her leg in the fall. The wound didn’t heal cleanly—it got inflamed and filled with pus.
The woman had worked at a nearby restaurant for a decade. She walked past that exact spot every day on her way to the bus stop, according to Shin Min Daily News. This time, though, the ground gave way beneath her feet.
Lucky for her, a colleague was there. He grabbed her as she went down, which probably kept things from getting worse.
The pain was intense. She had to sit on the ground for 10 to 15 minutes before she could even stand up again. Her son saw the whole thing and was scared stiff. She later told reporters she was grateful it wasn’t him who fell in instead.
Because the metal drain cover was rusty, she went to the hospital to get checked out. Better safe than sorry.
When Shin Min reporters swung by the location recently, the drain covers had already been swapped out for new ones.
The management at The Oasis told Mothership that vehicles driving over the area caused the cover to shift. They check the area every day and recommend that people stick to the designated sidewalks.
A spokesperson for Cintech III Science Park acknowledged the incident. The drain cover shifted after a vehicle rolled over it, creating a gap. Staff realign any shifted covers during their daily rounds.
Heavy vehicles move through the park regularly. That’s why pedestrian walkways have been set up around the building.
