A 28-year-old woman, Amelia, has claimed that she was assaulted by a man while dancing at Marquee Singapore, a nightclub located in Marina Bay Sands. Amelia, a senior marketing executive, shared the incident on Instagram on December 2, appealing for help to identify the man involved.
Incident on the Dance Floor
Amelia recounted that at around 2.15 a.m. on 16 November, she and her friends were dancing on a podium directly in front of their friend’s table, number 27. The man, seated at a table diagonally across from theirs, allegedly “pushed them aggressively under the guise of dancing,” nearly causing the group to fall off the elevated platform. A security guard and a bottle girl reportedly witnessed the behaviour and issued the man a warning. The group decided to move to a corner of the podium to avoid further escalation.
Moments later, Amelia said the man began “waving his hands very close” to their faces. When she pushed his hands away, he allegedly “turned around and kicked her forcefully in the chest, causing her to fall.” He continued to hit and kick her stomach, causing “tremendous pain.” She said she was unable to defend herself until her friends intervened.
Security and Police Response
Amelia claimed that Marquee’s security eventually escorted the man out of the club, but did not record his details. She said a guard told her, “If she got kicked, then why can she not defend herself and kick him back?” Amelia later contacted the police but was told that the case “did not meet the criteria for a police case” as no grievous harm or weapons were involved. She suffered bruises but was thankful the injuries were not more serious. She also described the emotional impact of the incident as “far deeper and lasting.”
The Singapore Police Force confirmed they received a call for assistance at 2.35 a.m. on 16 November at 1 Bayfront Avenue. Police investigations are ongoing. Amelia also mentioned that her Investigation Officer informed her that authorities have “zero leads” as the man could not be identified. Marquee Singapore confirmed the incident and stated, “We are cooperating fully with the police in their ongoing investigation.”
Experience and Appeal
Amelia described the experience as “extremely traumatising.” She said that when she was being attacked, she froze in shock and could not react. The pain became apparent only after paramedics attended to her, and she recalled, “I broke down and couldn’t stop crying uncontrollably.” She hopes measures such as recording the particulars of those escorted out could assist future investigations.
