Singapore’s ComfortDelGro has received the green light from the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to start public road trials of its autonomous vehicle (AV) shuttles in Punggol, the company announced on Thursday, December 11. The transport operator plans to roll out five five-seater AV shuttles in early 2026.
The approval comes after ComfortDelGro’s first batch of AVs completed Milestone 1 trials conducted by the Centre of Testing & Research of Autonomous Vehicles (CETRAN). The company intends to offer AV shuttle rides through its CDG Zig app under the “Zig Driverless” option.
Focus on Safety and Innovation
ComfortDelGro’s Group CEO Cheng Siak Kian said, “Completing the CETRAN Milestone 1 batch assessment successfully highlights our dedication to innovation, safety, and operational excellence. This achievement meets the stringent standards for autonomous vehicle systems, enabling us to introduce intelligent transport systems in Singapore responsibly.”
Route Plans and Public Access
LTA previously announced in September that the first AV shuttle services in Punggol would be open to the public by the second quarter of 2026. Grab will operate two routes with AVs from WeRide, while ComfortDelGro will operate one route using vehicles developed by Pony.ai.
- Grab Routes: The first route will link Matilda Court and Punggol Clover to the polyclinic at Oasis Terraces via Punggol Plaza, operating from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday, with no pre-booking required. The second route connects Matilda Court, Punggol Clover, and Punggol Northshore residents to One Punggol and Punggol Coast Mall.
- ComfortDelGro Route: Residents in Punggol Northshore can travel to Oasis Terraces and Punggol Plaza, while those in Waterway Sunrise can reach One Punggol and Punggol Coast Mall.
Acting Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow also mentioned that AV shuttle trials will expand to Tengah after the Punggol tests gave authorities “confidence” in the system.
This move marks a significant step forward for autonomous public transport in Singapore, bringing driverless shuttle services closer to everyday commuters in the Punggol district.
