East Ocean Teochew Restaurant, renowned for its Teochew and Cantonese classics and dim sum, will close its doors after 33 years of operation. The restaurant announced on its website that its final day of service will be 28 December 2025.
The restaurant explained that the decision to close was due to its shareholders and management being “advanced in age.” They also noted that there are no successors to continue the business, stating simply:
“All good things must come to an end.”
Special promotions before closing
Before its closure, East Ocean will launch “special promotions” and sell Chinese New Year cakes as a way to thank customers for their “unwavering support” over the years. The restaurant added:
“We would like to take this opportunity to once again express our heartfelt gratitude for your kind support and generosity.”

East Ocean first opened at Shaw Centre in 1992, where it became an icon over 20 years. In 2012, it moved to its current location on the fifth floor of Ngee Ann City, maintaining its reputation for traditional cuisine and exquisite dim sum.
The restaurant was also popular for seasonal treats during the Mid-Autumn Festival and Chinese New Year, offering items such as mooncakes and nian gao. Its closure places it among other iconic eateries that have shut down this year, including Ka-Soh, Very Lucky Turtle Soup, and Plum Village Restaurant.
