Early-Morning Blaze Erupts at Koufu in Tanglin Halt; Cause Under Investigation

Fire at Commonwealth Koufu Coffeeshop Involves Stall Contents, No Injuries Reported

A fire broke out at a Koufu coffeeshop in Commonwealth on Friday morning (28 November), involving the contents of one of the stalls. Footage shared by Singapore Incidents on Instagram showed smoke billowing from the premises, while a fire alarm blared in the background. Staff outside the coffeeshop remained calm as firefighters rushed to the scene, one of them carrying a fire extinguisher.

SCDF Responds Quickly
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the incident at about 6.40am. The coffeeshop is located at Block 88 Tanglin Halt Road, next to Commonwealth MRT station. SCDF stated, “The fire involved contents of a stall in a coffeeshop,” and added that it was extinguished using two water jets. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

According to a nearby shop owner speaking to Shin Min Daily News, the coffeeshop had already opened for business when the fire started. The blaze reportedly began in the kitchen of the economical rice stall. Staff from neighbouring shops quickly lent two fire extinguishers from their shop, while a nearby supermarket also provided several extinguishers to help put out the fire.

Aftermath
Reporters noted that the coffeeshop was closed on Friday night, displaying a sign that it was temporarily shuttered. There were no signs of further damage from the fire, and no other units were affected.

The incident came a day before another fire broke out at a coffeeshop in Block 61 Telok Blangah Heights on Saturday (29 November), where two people were sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation and 80 were evacuated, according to SCDF. The cause of that fire is also under investigation.
