The Isetan NEX department store in Serangoon is confirmed to close, making it the latest outlet in Singapore to shutter. After 15 years as an anchor tenant in NEX mall, the final day of operations is scheduled for April 2026.
This marks another significant departure for the Japanese department store chain, which recently closed its popular Tampines Mall branch, and leaves Isetan with just one final remaining outlet in the country.
Confirmed Closure and Future Plans for NEX Mall
The news of the Isetan NEX closure was confirmed by the mall management itself. In a public statement, NEX Serangoon extended thanks to Isetan for its long-standing partnership since the mall opened in 2010.
Crucially for shoppers in the area, the mall management has already teased that the sizable space will be filled by “new and exciting offerings”. For many long-time customers, the closure of Isetan means fewer options for department store shopping in the Serangoon area, making the replacement tenants highly anticipated.
Only Isetan Orchard Will Remain in Singapore
With the exit of the Isetan NEX branch in April 2026, the department store chain will be left with just one remaining outlet island-wide.
Shoppers looking to continue supporting the brand will need to head to its flagship store, Isetan Shaw House in Orchard. This final location in Singapore’s central shopping belt will be the sole physical representation of the brand that first established itself here in 1972. Isetan confirmed in a comment to a netizen that the Orchard store would be its last location after the NEX closure.
Part of a Wider Consolidation Trend
The decision to close the NEX Serangoon outlet follows a trend of strategic store consolidations for Isetan across the island. Just five months prior to the NEX closure, the Isetan Tampines Mall store shut its doors in November 2025 after a remarkable 30-year run.
Other recent closures include the Parkway Parade outlet in January 2022 and the Westgate store in Jurong East in 2020. At its peak, the beloved Japanese department store operated seven branches across Singapore.
What This Means for Shoppers
While an official Isetan NEX closing down sale has not been announced yet, North-East residents should keep a close eye on the Serangoon branch as the April 2026 closure date approaches. This is the last chance for many to grab their favourite products from the store before they must make the trip down to Isetan Orchard for their department store needs.
