Roof Tiles and Frame Collapse at Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery

Image

Parts of a roof came crashing down at Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery on 26 Nov 2025. The monastery shut off two buildings to the public after the incident.

The collapse happened around 8:00pm at the Venerable Hong Choon Memorial Hall. This building sits in the middle of the monastery compound at 88 Bright Hill Road.

Emergency Services Arrive After Roof Falls

SCDF got the call at 8:25pm. Firefighters showed up to find roof tiles and parts of the frame lying all over the courtyard.

The response team didn’t mess around. SCDF sent in firefighters, the Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team, and even search dogs to comb through the area.

One person got hurt, but the injuries were minor. An SCDF paramedic checked them out on the spot. The person said no to hospital treatment.

Nobody was in that part of the building when it happened. No activities were going on near the collapse zone either.

Authorities Step In

BCA confirmed that chunks of roof tiles and the frame fell off the four-storey memorial hall. The falling debris smashed windows in a nearby building too.

Here’s the good news: both buildings are still structurally sound. The collapse didn’t weaken them.

But BCA isn’t taking chances. Both buildings are off-limits until further notice.

BCA is forcing the building owner to bring in a professional engineer. This engineer needs to figure out why the roof gave way, set up safety measures, and plan permanent fixes.

Prayer Activities Continue

The monastery is working with investigators. But religious activities haven’t stopped.

All prayer sessions are running on schedule. Some areas might see temporary route changes to keep everyone safe—devotees, volunteers, and staff alike.

The Grand Prayer that Blesses and Benefits All Sentient Beings is still on. It started on 23 Nov 2025 and wraps up on 30 Nov 2025. One prayer shrine was supposed to be in the affected building, but they moved it to safety. Prayers are carrying on without a hitch.
