Zoe Tay announced her mother’s death on 1 December through Instagram.
The 57-year-old actress, who goes by the title “Ah Jie” or Big Sister in local television, posted a tribute in Chinese. “She never expressed her love, but poured love into every little moment of her daily life,” Tay wrote.
She added: “With her lifelong kindness, she taught me to treat the world gently. May you rest in peace, mum. I am missing you silently every day.”
Tay included hashtags like #MissingYou, #GratefulForYourNurturing and #TheGiantInMyHeart in her post.
Her mother had celebrated her 88th birthday earlier this year. Back on 30 June, Tay marked the occasion with an Instagram post saying: “Happy Birthday to my dearest mummy. Love you so so much.”
The actress had previously shared details about her upbringing in a 2021 social media post. She described how her mother raised her and her siblings alone while working. “Apart from her work, she didn’t have anyone to help her with house chores, and had to raise my siblings and I all on her own. Yet, she never once complained about it,” Tay wrote at the time.
Several local celebrities commented on the announcement. Actress Xiang Yun, host Guo Liang, actor Chew Chor Meng and radio DJ Glenn Ong left their condolences.
