The daughter of former Singaporean and ex-Internal Security Act (ISA) detainee Zulfikar Mohamad Shariff has tragically died in a car accident in Australia.
In a Facebook post on December 9, Zulfikar announced that his daughter, Sayyida Nafeesa Zulfikar, was “invited to return to Allah” at 7.45 am Melbourne time on the same day.
Zulfikar shared that Sayyida Nafeesa was on her way to work at Islamic college MyCollege, where she served as an administrative officer, when the accident occurred. “She passed on the way to perform her ibadah (Arabic term for worship),” he wrote.
Remembering a Loving Daughter
Describing his daughter, Zulfikar said she was “deeply caring and loving,” noting that anyone who knew her would attest to her pure and sincere heart. “She will go out of her way to help anyone in need,” he added, calling her a “smart, modest, and respectful girl.”
Details of the Accident
Later on the same day, Zulfikar shared a live report from 9 News Melbourne about a freak accident on the Hume Highway. The report stated that a 21-year-old driver died after a falling pole crushed the roof of their car. The news did not reveal any names, leaving it unclear whether Sayyida Nafeesa was the driver involved in the incident.
Stomp has reached out to Zulfikar for comment regarding the incident.
Zulfikar Mohamad Shariff has recently been in the news as Singapore police ordered TikTok and Meta to restrict and disable his social media accounts for posting content that fuels racial and religious tensions in Singapore.
