A 28-year-old Malaysian man was robbed at knifepoint at a bus stop in Johor Bahru after finishing his work shift in Singapore. The incident happened in the early hours of January 8 and involved three suspects who targeted him shortly after he got off the bus.
According to China Press, the robbery took place at around 7.30 am at a bus stop along Tebrau Road, near the Lotus’s hypermarket. The victim, who goes by the name Chen, works as a warehouse administrator and travels daily between Singapore and Johor Bahru for work. Because of his shift schedule, he often takes public buses and gets off at the bus stop late at night or early in the morning.
On the morning of the incident, Chen had just alighted from the bus when he was suddenly approached by three well-built men. His wife later shared details of what happened online, describing the experience as deeply distressing. She said the men stopped her husband and quickly surrounded him. One of them pulled out a knife, forcing him to move aside while the others took his belongings. The situation was described as “held at knifepoint”, leaving Chen with no chance to resist.
During the robbery, Chen lost his wallet, mobile phone, and other personal items. His wife said his wallet contained important documents, including his driving licence, work permit, and the identity cards of their two children. After the suspects fled the scene, Chen did not chase after them, fearing for his own safety. He instead made his way home on his own.
Not long after the robbery, the suspects began using Chen’s ATM card. Within just 30 minutes, more than RM3,000 was transferred out of his bank account. The money was reportedly sent to an overseas bank account, adding to the shock and stress faced by the victim and his family.
Police investigations are currently ongoing. Authorities are looking into the case, including how the suspects were able to access and transfer the funds so quickly after the robbery. No arrests have been announced so far.
