An elderly woman was sent to the hospital after slipping on wet paint and falling in a car park next to Block 701 Yishun Avenue 5. Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) paramedics attended to her at the scene, while police officers were also present. Her clothes, hands, and hair were covered in paint, and a visible bump had formed on her head. A paramedic took her blood pressure and applied plasters to her arm.
What Happened
The woman had been walking through the car park while having dinner with her family when she slipped. She fell on her back and suffered severe head pain, prompting her family to call an ambulance immediately. Mr Pan, a 48-year-old reader of Shin Min Daily News, said he witnessed the aftermath and noted the area was dangerous for pedestrians, especially the elderly.
Condition of the Carpark
Photos shared online showed white paint spread across two carpark spaces, with shoe prints and skid marks indicating people had stepped in the wet paint. A paint can lid was left behind, suggesting negligence. Mr Pan and other members of the public placed a dustbin at the scene to warn others and prevent further accidents.
Clean-Up Efforts
When AsiaOne reporters visited the carpark on Jan 19, no construction work was taking place in the area. Town council workers cordoned off the spot with traffic cones and later removed the paint by spraying water around 11 am. Authorities did not mention any further investigation but ensured the area was made safe for pedestrians.
