Brad Arnold, the lead singer of American rock band 3 Doors Down, has died at the age of 47 after battling cancer. The band confirmed his passing in a statement shared on their official social media platforms.
According to the statement, Arnold passed away peacefully in his sleep on Feb. 7, surrounded by his family and loved ones. The news was met with sadness from fans around the world who grew up listening to his music.
Arnold was diagnosed with stage four cancer in May 2025. Reports stated that by the time of diagnosis, the cancer had already spread to his lungs. Despite his illness, Arnold remained closely connected to his music and band during this period.
A Founding Member of 3 Doors Down
Arnold was the sole remaining founding member of 3 Doors Down. Over the years, he played several roles within the band, including being a songwriter and the original drummer, before becoming the lead singer.
The band had gone through several changes since its formation. Bassist Todd Harrell was replaced after being convicted in a 2013 vehicular homicide case. Guitarist Matt Roberts left the band in 2012 and later died in 2016 due to an overdose.
3 Doors Down rose to fame with songs that became widely recognised across the world. The band is best known for hits such as “Here Without You”, “When I’m Gone”, and “Kryptonite”. “Kryptonite” was their breakout song and helped establish the band’s place in the rock music scene.
Arnold wrote “Kryptonite” when he was just 15 years old, during a math class. The song later became one of the most recognisable rock tracks of its time.
Remembered as a Musician and Husband
Beyond his music career, Arnold was also described as a devoted husband. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer.
In their tribute, the band shared a heartfelt message remembering his impact. They wrote:
