Negeri Sembilan Restaurant Faces Investigation Over Claims of Rewashing Food

A restaurant in Seremban, Malaysia, has faced public outrage after staff were reportedly caught washing leftover food to recook and sell the next day. The incident happened around midnight on Feb. 3, 2026, near Palm Mall, and quickly went viral on social media.

A witness at the front parking area said they noticed the activity at the back of the restaurant. The leftover items included tofu, chicken, and lamb. According to Malay Mail, the staff member allegedly washed the food and then separated it into trays for recooking.

Confrontation and Reactions

When the worker was confronted by a social media user who recorded the act, they reportedly said the food would be cooked the next day again. The Star reported that other colleagues initially offered excuses but eventually admitted to the practice, claiming it would not compromise food safety.

However, the person who recorded the video disagreed, calling the actions “unacceptable” and adding that such behavior endangered public health. The post described the practice as unethical, unsafe, and disgusting.

Health Department Investigation

In response to the incident, Zuraida Mohamed, health director of the Negeri Sembilan State Health Department (JKNNS), said the department is investigating the allegations. Health enforcement officers visited the restaurant for inspection after being informed on the morning of Feb. 3.

“If the claims made on social media are found to be true, firm action will be taken,” she said, according to New Straits Times. She also reminded the public to use proper channels for lodging formal complaints about food safety.
