On March 9, an auxiliary police officer was allegedly threatened by a 45-year-old man near Geylang Serai Market. The incident occurred around 9.50pm, prompting calls for help to the police. Members of the public quickly stepped in to disarm and subdue the man. The police later arrested him for criminal intimidation.
According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force, they received a call for assistance in the nearby Sims Avenue at around 10.50pm. One person was taken to Changi General Hospital. The officer involved sustained minor injuries, reported by The Straits Times.
Dashcam Footage Captures the Scene
Dashcam footage of the incident showed the man walking up to the officer at a traffic light crossing, holding what appeared to be a pointed object in one hand. The video then shows him placing the officer in a chokehold before three police officers arrive and take him away. A knife was seized as a case exhibit for investigations.
The police are still investigating the incident to confirm all details.
