A 47-year-old Singaporean man has been charged in court after an incident involving his wife and their five-year-old daughter during a heated argument at home. The man pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Argument Between a Couple
According to court proceedings reported on March 4, 2026, the incident happened on January 5, 2025, at around 1pm when the couple got into a serious argument at home.
During the quarrel, the man allegedly grabbed his 42-year-old wife by the neck and shoved her into a closet. At one point during the confrontation, he shouted, “If I am going to die, let us die together.”
After saying this, he picked up their five-year-old daughter. The man then allegedly carried the child into the kitchen and placed her on the windowsill. The court heard that her upper body was exposed over the edge of the window.
Daughter Injured During Struggle
The wife rushed over and tried to pull their daughter away from him. During the struggle, the child fell back inside the house and suffered injuries. She was later taken to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital for treatment.
Following the incident, the wife contacted the police and told them that her husband wanted to kill her. The man was arrested the next day.
Fight Escalated After Wife Slapped Husband
During the hearing, the court was told that the argument started when the wife slapped the man while he was sitting on the bed. The defence said she had hit him at least three times.
The wife admitted that she had gotten physical but explained that she was upset because the man had been using his phone and ignoring her. She also said he had eaten outside but did not bring food home for her and their daughter.
She also admitted to telling him to “kill yourself”, which reportedly triggered the man’s response, where he shouted that they should die together.
Dispute Over What Happened At The Window
When asked what she saw in the kitchen, the wife said the man was standing between her and their daughter. She explained that she “only saw her body getting stuck, and the upper left side of her body appearing upright against the window frame. But her face was facing outward.”
However, when asked if she could confirm that the child’s upper body had actually gone past the window edge, she said she could not confirm it because her view was blocked by the accused.
The man admitted that he had placed his daughter on the windowsill but denied exposing her body over the edge.
Accused’s Testimony In Court
When the hearing continued on March 5, the accused took the stand and spoke about their relationship. The couple first met in 2013 and later married on October 5, 2014.
He told the court that their marriage had been generally harmonious but things became stressful when his wife returned to work after their daughter turned four. He also said he had changed jobs around the same time.
The man said he had a “very good” relationship with his daughter. He also claimed that his wife had often told him to “kill yourself” during arguments in the past, and he had sometimes responded by saying they should “die together.”
According to him, the comment he made during the January 2025 argument was directed at his wife, not their daughter.
The accused explained that he grabbed his daughter when he was leaving the room because she was standing at the doorway and he did not want to knock into her. He said he carried her into the kitchen because he intended to hide in the bathroom.
However, his wife caught up with him, and they ended up struggling near the kitchen window. The man told the court that he never exposed his daughter’s body over the window and that he was holding on to her the entire time.
No-Contact Order Issued
Following the incident, the accused moved out of the family home. A no-contact order has also been issued, preventing him from contacting both his wife and daughter.
The wife told the court that their relationship is now “frosty.” She also confirmed that she has a good relationship with her daughter and loves her.
