James Henry O’Sullivan, 51, was earlier sentenced to jail for offences linked to the collapsed German payments company Wirecard and his bail revoked while waiting for his appeal.
He appeared in court through a video link from the Central Police Division on Mar 11 after he was placed in remand. He had previously been out on bail while appealing against his conviction and jail sentence.
O’Sullivan had been sentenced in January to six and a half years in jail after he was convicted of five counts of falsification of accounts linked to Wirecard.
After the sentencing, he was released on S$300,000 bail while waiting for his appeal against both the conviction and the sentence.
However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Gordon Oh told the court that O’Sullivan was arrested on Mar 9 as he was believed to have broken, or was likely to break, the conditions of his bail.
One of the conditions required him not to commit any offences while on bail. Another condition required him to surrender his travel document.
Passport Images Found on Phone
Investigators reviewed O’Sullivan’s mobile phone after it was seized on Mar 9. They found images of two passports that showed his name and photograph. The images included a Republic of Vanuatu passport and a United Kingdom passport.
The United Kingdom passport had a different passport number from the British passport that had already been impounded by the Commercial Affairs Department since 2020.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Gordon Oh also told the court that browser tabs and bookmarks on the mobile device showed O’Sullivan had been searching for accommodation in Vanuatu.
Investigators also found that he had made inquiries about matters involving extradition to Singapore.
The prosecutor told the court that these findings showed that O’Sullivan had an intention to abscond. He also said the accused was a flight risk because he has no roots, family, or job in Singapore.
Judge Revokes Bail
O’Sullivan is represented by a legal team led by lawyer Tito Shane Isaac. The lawyer told the court that he needed time to take instructions from his client about the next steps. He added that he could not consent to the bail being revoked.
After hearing both sides, District Judge Ng Cheng Thiam decided to revoke O’Sullivan’s bail. The judge said there was evidence showing that he could be a flight risk. The case is scheduled to return to court again on Mar 18.
Earlier Conviction Linked to Wirecard
Earlier, a district court had found O’Sullivan and Singaporean R. Shanmugaratnam, 59, guilty of offences linked to Wirecard in September 2025 after a trial.
Both men were given jail sentences in January but indicated that they planned to appeal against their convictions and sentences.
Shanmugaratnam was convicted of 13 counts of falsification of accounts linked to nearly €1.1 billion that was said to be held in escrow for Wirecard and related companies.
He was sentenced to 10 years in jail.
